About Us

Kenya Aids Orphans Aid e.V. is a non-profit organization in Cologne that has been caring for needy children and families in Kenya since 2005. The initial idea for founding the organization arose after a trip to Kenya by the current chairwoman, Barbara Weiss, a native Kenyan, and initially focused on providing medical and financial support to friends and families affected by HIV. This idea and assistance quickly expanded to include aspects such as education and nutrition for many needy children in Kenya. The organization's main goal is to enable children to receive a school education and ensure access to medical care. In addition to sponsorships, we finance and support various projects in Kenya. For example, we have built a school kitchen, are planning further renovations to the school, and have connected the village of Karatina to the local water and electricity grid. We also provide microloans so that families can establish their own businesses and become self-sufficient in the future.

Our work in Kenya: Our social workers maintain regular and close contact with the families and children. They take care of all tasks that arise on-site and work closely with the children's schools. With the Divine Word Missionary Brother Karl Schaarschmidt, who has lived in Kenya since 1985, we have another dedicated supporter on the ground. He is familiar with the political, cultural, and ethnic context of the country and has the necessary contacts with organizations and authorities. Thanks to him, we can also utilize the infrastructure of the Divine Word Missionaries. You can learn more about Brother Karl here.

"Small acts of assistance may seem like a drop in the ocean, but they do good for many AIDS orphans and AIDS patients, enabling many children to attend school and have a future." (Brother Karl)
